Frequently Asked Questions

When does the Marching Season start?

Marching band starts with Band Camp. This year, Band Camp will be July 20 through July 23, 2009.

Marching Band is during Zero Hour. What is Zero Hour?

Zero Hour is a period prior to the start of the regular school day. Here at CDO Marching Band Zero Hour starts at 7:15. Students report to the Band Room at 7:15 am, and they must be on the field, ready to practice at 7:30.

Why so early?

During the marching season, Marching Band is very intense. We practice outside, so the earlier we can start the more comfortable it will be.

Is there transportation available for Zero Hour classes?

Transportation is not provided for Zero Hour classes. Many families make car-pooling arrangements to alleviate that problem.

Are there other scheduled practices?

Yes, band practice will be held Tuesday nights, between 5:30 pm and 8:30 pm. It is suggested that students remain on campus after school. An adult staff member supervises the students between the time school gets out and 5:30. There is a scheduled study period for students to do their homework, and dinner can be ordered so that no one has to leave campus to get food. More information about the food arrangements will be forthcoming.

Must students participate in Band Camp?

No, they do not have. However, it is highly recommended, especially for students that are new to CDO or students that have not marched before.

If a student attends Band Camp, must that student join Marching Band?

No, but Band Camp is a good opportunity for students to decide whether Marching Band is for them.

What do students do at Band Camp?

Some of the things students will learn are learning marching fundamentals, learn the music for the Show, get to know the other members of the Band.

Do you need prior experience playing an instrument?

No. Students will be taught everything they need to know. There have been students that have joined marching band playing a new instrument to them.

I have other questions not addressed here. Who can I talk to?

Mr. Darrell Prochaska is the Band Director, and he can answer any questions you many have. Please e-mail him.

If your questions are regarding Band Camp, e-mail Tammy Sargent or Jenny Madden.

Students should talk to the Drum Majors or Section Leaders. The Student Staff is always willing to help other students that may need their help. Student Staff members are listed on the Marching Band page.

A great opportunity to learn more about Band is to attend the Band Booster Meetings. These meetings are held the first Monday of each month (except July). The meetings are at 7:00 pm in the Band Room.
